Food Stuff

Of course, December is a month full of holidays and holiday preparations. Snacks to full-meal ideas are relished for this great month. We have included three of our favorites for Christmas month.

Nuts And Bolts

Otherwise, known as Chex Party Mix although I have remodeled the recipe for my own taste.

A shallow sheet cake pan is good for this party mix. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. In a shallow pan, heat a half cup butter to melt it. Add 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce, a half teaspoon of salt, a half teaspoon of garlic salt, and a teaspoon of celery seed. When butter is melted pour it over a mixture of dry cereals. My preference is 2 cups of wheat chex, 2 cups of cheerios and perhaps a cup of rice chex. The dry cereal mix also includes a cup of pretzel sticks and at least a cup and a half of your preferred nuts. Stir this mixture until all portions are coated with the spiced butter. Put into the shallow cake pan and heat in oven for a half hour. When you take it out, let it cool for an hour or so before serving.

Date Pudding (or is it a cake?)

Grease an 8 X 8 cake pan & set it aside. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Put the dates, soda and butter into a mixing bowl & add hot water to melt the butter. Mix in the egg & sugar until it is well blended. Add the flour & nuts and stir until well mixed. Place the mixture into the greased cake pan and insert into preheated oven for more or less forty minutes. Use the old toothpick prick to know if it is done. It is best served warm with whipped cream over it.

What you need to make this masterpiece:
2 cups of dates cut into bite sizes
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 cup of boiling water (hot enough to melt the butter)
1 egg
1 cup of sugar
1 and a third cups of flour
A half cup of walnuts or pecans.

Peanut Butter Fudge

Ingredients Needed for Peanut Butter Fudge:
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Cup Granulated Sugar (white)
1/2 Cup Milk
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
3/4 Cup Peanut Butter (I prefer crunchy.)
A dash of salt.

How to make it:
Cook the butter, milk and both sugars to the soft ball stage (around 240 degrees F). Add peanut butter, salt and vanilla and stir until it begins to thicken. Pour it into a greased 8 inch cake pan to set. Cut into squares before it sets too much.
